The Isfahan Airport is located in a city of the same name. The city and airport both sit in the province of Iran. The airport itself is named after one Ayatolla Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti. He was a scholar, a jurist and the architect of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also served as the secretary general of the Islamic Republic Party and the head of the Iranian judicial system. In 1981, he was assassinated. The airport bares his name in the memory of the democratic contributions he made towards Iran.
The airport itself is a single story building that houses a limited amount of resources. The terminal is being remodeled and subsequently expanded to accommodate the large amount of international flights that arrive here every year. They are one of the largest steel producers in the region and also produce some of the strongest alloys in the country.
The Isfahan International sits near to the Zayendah River, which is also near to the base of the Zagros foothills, which give way to a large, beautiful mountain range. There are taxis that mill around the terminal, which are helpful for guests who are arriving and do not have a prearranged mode of transportation. Make sure that you book your flights ahead of time. Because of the limited number of domestic flights that patrons are able to catch throughout the year, it is important to book the flights well ahead of time, otherwise you may be placed onto a waiting list. The region of Isfahan is relatively dry and prone to bouts of drought. Because of this, travelers generally don't have to worry about running into a storm on their way into the country.
The Isfahan Metro is a public city transportation link, much like a light rail or subway above the ground. This will also get you where you need to go after you arrive at the airport. Taxis generally remain the most popular way of airport transportation, however. On the other hand, if you are renting a car or have a vehicle waiting for you when you arrive at the Isfahan International Airport, there are easy roads and highways located near the terminal. You can reach Tehran and Shiraz using these highways, which have been under expansion for the last ten years.
If you are waiting for a flight to come into the airport, on the other hand, there is plenty to see and do in the city while you are waiting. There are many culturally colorful restaurants and landmarks to visit. The waiting area for flight gates is comfortable; be aware that there's a limited amount of services inside the airport.
